MySpace vs. Facebook

In terms of popularity, MySpace and Facebook have been the undisputed king and queen of the social networking world. But in recent months Facebook has been taking the lead against MySpace. According to Nielsen survey, in March of this year, MySpace saw 55.9 million visitors whereas Facebook saw 69.1 million. Technically speaking, MySpace was the only social networking site who did not see an increase in traffic.

So breaking down the numbers, people might be wondering why Facebook is pulling a head so fast. Well for one, Facebook has been around longer then MySpace, although MySpace received a traffic boost between 2006-2007 thanks to bunch of media coverage and the backing of many musical artists, actors and many celebrities. But the major problem with MySpace currently is that it has not reinvented itself.

Whereas Facebook has been able to court the adult crowd who would normally shy away from social networking sites, MySpace is still seen by many adults as a place where teenagers hang go wild, couple that with the fact that many adults are not tech savvy and thus not able to customize their pages with HTML and stuff and it makes a lot feel left out.

But MySpace is not gone just yet. Perhaps their new CEO who has never had a MySpace profile will be able to inject a little adrenaline into those veins.
